The Ermitage Lagoon

The island's largest lagoon

Less than twenty minutes north and you’re there: Réunion’s largest lagoon, protected by its coral reef and the Marine Nature Reserve. The water here is calm and warm, knee-deep for dozens of meters, making it the perfect spot for a family’s first snorkeling adventure, surrounded by parrotfish, blue-banded surgeonfish, and coral heads.

The beach is lined with casuarina trees that provide shade all day long, and the picnic tables fill up as early as Saturday morning. Come early to enjoy the peace and quiet and to find a place to park. Remember to use mineral sunscreen: chemical filters damage the coral, and the lagoon is a protected site.
