Saint-Leu Waterfront
A lively promenade of easy living, rondavelles and spectacular sunsets
Just a few minutes’ walk from the residence, the Saint-Leu waterfront opens up to the lagoon and the Indian Ocean. As soon as you arrive, you feel the energy of the seaside village all around you. Children’s laughter mingles with the sound of the waves, the smell of barbecued food drifts through the air, and the colourful silhouettes of paragliders dot the sky. This long promenade bordered by casuarina trees is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a bicycle ride.
On Saturday mornings, the open-air market brings the seafront to life. Lilting accents blend with the scent of spices, samoussas, and exotic fruits. In the late afternoon, make your way to the rondavelles (waterfront kiosks) and seaside restaurants. Their terraces facing the ocean offer the perfect spot for dinner or a sundowner in front of one of the island’s most beautiful sunsets. When the sky begins to turn orange and pink, it is hard to resist reaching for your camera.
Some of the rondavelles have become true meeting points for locals and visitors alike. Enjoy a “pain bouchon” with a cold Dodo beer while taking in free weekend concerts. A wonderful way to end the day.
