Grande Anse

A sandy cove in the Wild South

Fifty minutes by car past Saint-Pierre, the road climbs and then descends toward Petite-Île, and Grande Anse suddenly comes into view: a cove of golden sand lined with coconut palms, nestled between two black cliffs.

It’s undoubtedly the most beautiful postcard view in the South.

The ocean here is powerful, but a natural swimming area has been created so you can swim safely while the waves crash just a few meters away. The picnic tables under the coconut palms are swamped with families from Réunion on Sundays. One absolute rule: never swim outside the designated area—the offshore currents are treacherous.
